One of the best things about summer at our house is looking forward to organic veggie cooking.
And, we have a new comer this year!
Please welcome, Mister Zucchini Plant.

He certainly is large and in charge.
It's hard to tell but those leaves are a good 2 feet in length.

In a few weeks, we're probably going
to have more than we know what to do with.
Just a heads up ;)
Returning champion players from last year are
Strawberries
and
Broccoli

However, the strawberries are officially in their last run here in the garden.
As much as we LOVE being the neighborhood go-to supply for bunnies berry feast,
it just isn't working out.
I only got one edible strawberry out of probably 20 plants.
So, garage sale 2010, I'll be potting them all and selling them for a quarter each.
So if you've got a bunny safe garden, hit us up!

The broccoli though, now that's another story.
We weren't even planning to plant any this year.
But that didn't matter much because they decided to come up on their own.
4 new plants, 3 of which just gave us a good amount
for dinner last night.

There in between the zucchini, broccoli and strawberries,
we have some garlic chives.
And weirdly enough they really taste like garlic.
Just rip if off and chew it.
That's the way we dooz it.
Maybe one of these days I'll put some in a dish. :D

Concerning our green peppers (yea those dinky things with the over sized cages),
I think this spring killed them.
If you can call it spring. You know.
It was more like winter 2.0.
Normally by this time, our peppers are 3 feet high.
So far we've only gotten 3 off of them.
It's a sad story, but the tomatoes in the back seem to be making up for it.

A few weeks ago some of the ladies at Ken's work gave him some really hot black peppers to dry so that he could plant the seeds.
So he did, and we waited...

And look who decided to show up :)

With luck we'll be able to give them a try before the summer is over.
::crossing fingers::
We love peppers over here.
Maybe ya couldn't tell.
We only have, like, 4 other pepper plants...

I forget what these are called...

But yeah, I guess they grow up instead of down.
Pretty cute.

And of course, you gatta have fresh basil.

Handy for pretty much anything.
Like, pizza maybe?
I hope to be making a LOT more of these in the future...
(Whole wheat pizza from scratch with zucchini and mushrooms)

So delish. Shoot me an email if you want the recipe.
