As it's is my first post of the new year, I'll give a little recap the the holidays.
We'll see if I can remember it all...
Christmas was lovely, busy, and FULL of sweets as expected, which have lasted until... well, let's just say I'm still eating cookies for lunch 2 weeks after the fact. After they're gone I think I'll be A-ok with not seeing a cookie for a very long time.
So the morning of, Mister J and I packed up all our wrapped presents from under the lil' tree, made a ginormous bowl of fruit salad and drove everything to my sister Lindsay's place in the city for a fresh take on Christmas. Breakfast included a delicious french toast casserole (sounds weird but one bite would have you won over), and a splash of champagne with orange juice, and sparkling pear juice. So delish. I would eat this breakfast every day if I could.
We had brought Miya along, thinking she would be the better behaved of the two dogs, and also because she had not been met by most of the family! This decision turned for the worse however, when the aftermath of having stolen redhot & frosting decorated cookies off the kitchen table the night before, caused her to.... um... have a bit of a tummy ache. Lets just say Miyas Xmas gift to my sister was a new kitchen rug. :)
After the cleaning chaos, gift exchanging, delicious hors d'oeuvres and a bit of Mad Men, we had to leave the city and head up to Lincolnwood for a Christmas dinner at Kens aunt and uncles house with cousins and parents. One of Kens cousins has a 6 year old daughter who I'd made a pink and purple hoop for, and most of the night was spent mastering it downstairs in the wreck room. And let me tell you this girl is a natural! I've never seen someone pick up hooping so fast. She was doing 360's after a half hour. Wish I had remembered to take a picture!
The rest of the weekend was pretty calm and filled with snow blizzards. We spent most of the time indoors relaxing and cleaning up around the house so by the time Monday came around, I was ready to get out of the house. So Monday night I went out to an amazing venue in the city called Green Dolphin Street with two girlfriends of mine, Annie, who had been my next door neighbor and mentor at my apartment on Dawson St. when I was 19/20, and Colleen who is pretty much my sistah from another mistah. <3

The talent for the night was Mark Farina, and he drew the crowd of all crowds let me tell you. That night was so cold and there was a line down the street that we had to brave for a good hour this place was so packed! We thought we might not survive it, but when we did (thanks to huddling and wrapping exposed toes in scarves), it was SO worth it. I think we found a new favorite spot for Mondays in the future.... just maybe not the nights that are 20 degrees or below, ya know. It can be hard to find spots with good vibes, music, and a decent amount of dance space in the city. And this place has it ALL. Can't wait for round two.. and three... and yeah :)
The next afternoon, us 3 girls and a pal of Annies caught an early dinner at an awesome tiny Cuban cafe in the city called 90 Miles. We had the most amazing plantain chips glazed with a garlic oil that were just to die for. Lookin something like this... MMMMMmmmmmm

If you're ever around Stave and Armitage, stop by and grab some! Truuuuust me ;D Next on the agenda was heading over to Lindsays place to paint! And we did, with my aunts Vickies help. Thank goodness. It only took us 5 hours.... and they had been working for at least 3 by the time I got there. Finished product looked great. Here are some of her pics of the work:

The next night, we had a late Christmas dinner #3 with Kens parents and sister Kristen and brother in law Dave who were visiting all the way from Portland. Later that night we had them come over to our place for some smoothies, grilled cheeses, and a lil hang out time. It was sad that they had to leave Friday morning, but at least we got to see them for a bit!

Our plans for the blue moon New Years Eve were joining Colleen at her fabulous pad downtown and heading over to the sold out Congress Theatre to see Girl Talk perform. The night was delightful, although we didn't have the energy to stay out very late. The stage set looked amazing, and rightfully so. Colleens boyfriend Bob and roommate Collyns had spent almost a week constructing an entire house on stage. Here are some pics he took that I thought wrapped up the experience perfectly. It's always a fun time over there :)

The rest of the weekend was insanely lazy, or I guess you could say peacefully lazy :) And it was MUCH needed. I don't think I've gotten so much sleep in one weekend in many years. We did a bit of shopping, or ken went shopping at his favorite project store, Menards, and I was bored and took phone pictures...

Did a bit of planning for the new year, and I mentally prepared for school starting, but that was about it.
And even though I was nervous, and a bit sad yesterday, as it was the 2 year anniversary of my moms passing, I made it to my first class at the National Personal Training Institute.
I'm pretty pleased with the program so far. Love my instructors, Jen and Victor. Love my classmates too. I'll get into more of school stuff later this week. But all in all, I think it's going to be a great place to grow as a person. I think I'll be spending a lot of time at this gym in the next two years (we're granted a full years membership upon graduation). AND it has a great aerobics room that I can't wait to hoop in! hehe
I didn't realize how much I missed the smell of a gym!
It's been quite a while since my 3-hour workouts at Xsport, and even longer since the days of high school weights class.
Sure, I'm going to be getting home at midnight a few nights a week, but I think I can handle it.
So, this WEEKEND, is going to be another crazy one. Just seems to be the case these days. :)
Friday night Lindsay is coming out to hopefully get some new tires for her car at our Costco (cus you know, they got the dealz), and then Saturday, Colleen and I are making a day trip out to JoAnn Fabrics to pick up some sweet threads to sew some of these for ourselves!

Its about time we make some good use of my sewing station.
Now that I have a dress form (BIG thanks to Kens parents) it should make designing pieces a LOT easier. Can't wait to start getting creative this year!
Saturday night, we'll be bartending with our girl Kelly at a party the Shake it Town and Seismic Bass guys have put together. Should be a turnout in the hundreds! Get ready for a long and FUN night.

Oh yeah, and I finally decided to take my video cam out of the closet, dust it off and start making use of it again.
Stay tuned for our new show, the "Adventuress of Kacey and Miya", coming soon.
Actually that's just a joke, but... kind of not, because we'll most likely take a lot of footage of the pups, cus we're lame like that, and they're hilarious. We'll see what develops...
Tata for now, and Happy New Year!
